Day in Lincoln Park Tuesday, Aug 30 2011

I spent the day off walking around Downtown Lincoln Park. I love the ambiance and atmosphere there… vintage buildings, unique stores, amazing architecture, delicious restaurants, and people who genuinely are happy being where they are at the present moment. I took the time to photograph my all time new favorite store, Rugby, which houses Ralph Lauren’s upscale, preppy collection of plush cashmere sweaters and striking blazers that are devastating to the wallet. There’s a bunch of outrageously priced “thrift store”, “resale shop” “consignment shops” around that area, but they lack true soul simply because they are bare in merchandise. In my opinion, the best thrift stores and vintage finds are in the suburbs, randomly encountered, or down Belmont and Sheffield in Chicago.

Our next stop was a place called Barker & Meowsky: A Paw Firm (for all of you pet lovers out there!). Chumchum ended up getting a bag of treats and a sweet toy made out of wood and linen for only $3.00. I love that an old, brown dog greets you at the door and the staff is so welcoming. They even gave me some samples of a cat treat (shredded salmon, ooh la la) since Chum is so picky.

We ended up eating at a restaurant called Shine, and I took photos of Shrimp Rolls;  Hot Pot Stir Fry, which is Japanese eggplant, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, lemongrass, peas and tomato in an aromatic panang curry; Shine Maki, which is crispy shrimp and cucumber wrapped in baby tuna, topped with ginger dressing; and Toro Maki, with fatty tuna, avocado, cilantro, scallion, shitake, and tempura crunch with spicy sauce.

Fall Fashion List Friday, Aug 19 2011

So… As a known fashion junkie, I’m addicted to evolving my style and appearance on a regular basis. My latest craze? Simple, soft, vintage, classic, but with a slight edge. I am still learning how to pair prints, but I am proud to say that I have stopped the “all black” look and have ventured into colors and textures. I found this website, It’s like a Zara/J.Crew/ all mixed into one website. The Europeans always have the coolest stores!

My latest loves?

1). Riding boots (Those have been my staple fall piece for the past six years)

2). Cognac anything

3). Whimsical dresses with sharp blazers

4). Vintage lace

5). Prints! (I recently bought a Strawberry printed sweater from Urban Outfitters, absolutely adorable).

6). Grandma Chic (Always in, always alluring)

7). Collar Shirts (Tuck it in, out, unbuttoned, or tied in the front! Pair it with a wide belt)

8). Briefcases

9). Oxford Laceups

10). Cheap! You don’t have to spend a lot. Really. Just a few pieces to mix and match makes your entire wardrobe fresh.

Chanel Pearl Eyeglasses Monday, Aug 8 2011

While shopping for eyeglasses, I encountered these beauties at my local Lenscrafters. I didn’t get them because I have something very similar in shape (and they were a bit out of my price range), as my quest was to buy round, classic plastic frames that were elegant but still lightweight. I settled on a pair of Polo by Ralph Lauren, but I can still drool over these, right? Chanel nailed it with the three strands of cultured pearls. Price tag? $490, just for frames.

Kobi Levi Shoes Sunday, Aug 7 2011

I am a shoe/purse/skincare/clothing/waste of money junkie. I thought these shoes were so unique and creative, they completely blew me away. How cool to wear a slingshot on your feet, or frollick around with puppy dogs staring back at the world?
